The challenge
Hermann Hauff was faced with the task of efficiently designing the production process for the new worm shafts.
The insertion and removal of these long and scratch-sensitive parts into the injection molding machine requires special care, but must of course still be carried out quickly and without major process interruptions. A solution was therefore required that offered a high level of precision combined with a long autonomy time in order to maximize productivity and minimize manual intervention.
The solution
To meet these requirements, Hermann Hauff decided to use the flexobot robot cell from robomotion. This mobile and space-saving robot cell enables fully automatic loading and unloading of the injection molding machine in a one-piece flow.
A 6-axis robot grips eight worm shafts simultaneously with a customized clamping gripper and aligns them precisely with stainless steel flanks before inserting them exactly into the injection moulding machine. Within just three seconds, the injection molding machine overmolds the shafts with a worm wheel and an assembly module. The entire process, including the removal of the finished overmolded worm shafts, takes place in a single step.
The finished parts then cool down on a buffer section before they are accurately counted into the packaging using a light barrier and removed by a fully automatic crate changer.
